Tunisia Tour with Camp Mars Timbaine

Arrival to Tunis airports, welcome by our driver. Transfer to the hotel (05-15 Km =15-30 minutes driving), dinner and overnight in Tunis.

After Breakfast, departure to Explore Carthage (UNESCO World Heritage Site) (30 minutes driving = 15 Km) the capital of ancient Carthaginian Empire. Visit Byrsa Hill to see the ruins of Roman buildings and Carthage Museum. See the Tophet, where urns containing the ashes and milk teeth of 8th century BC children have been unearthed. Visit Antonine Baths, a huge Roman bath complex on the edge of the Mediterranean, visit the theatre and Punic Port. Continuation to Sidi Bou Said (10 minutes driving = 5 Km): stroll through the narrow streets of Sidi Bou Said, a picturesque small town bordered by white-washed houses with blue shutters and doors. Check out the various art galleries and try some mint tea in one of the traditional street cafes while enjoying the superb view of the gulf of Tunisia. Then, spend some leisure time to indulge in shopping. Visit of Bardo Museum (closed on Mondays) (15 Km = 20 minutes driving), one of the best archaeological museums in the Mediterranean, which is especially well known for its beautiful collection of mosaics. The museum is located in an old palace that belongs to the Beys, rulers of Tunisia. Next, visit Tunis Medina where we will see the “old Tunisia” which includes the Medina, the ‘European’ quarter built at the beginning of the 20th century and the new modern suburbs (05 Km; 10 minutes driving). Return to the hotel in Tunis (15 Minutes driving = 5-10 Km).

Breakfast checkout and departure to visit the archaeological site of Dougga (ancient Thugga)(01H30 driving = 80 Km) : covering some 60 acres and laid out on a steep slope some 2,000 feet above the plain, Dougga was known as the “city of temples.”. Visit of Dougga’s theatre, which today is used for its Drama festival and accommodates almost 3,500 people. Visit to the Temple of Saturn, which was found evidence of a preRoman sanctuary dedicated to the Carthaginian god Gal; and the Temples of Augustan Piety and Mercury. Proceed Kairouan (02H00 driving = 120 Km): one of the holiest sites in Islam and the spiritual home of all Tunisians. Explore Kairouan, the city which rises like a dream of ochre and tawny beige, bearing in its serenity 13 centuries of Islamic culture. Behold the wondrous beauty of its mosques, the symphony of its columns and arches and the exquisite delicacy of the stone work. Visit Sidi Sahbi Mausoleum, which houses the tomb of one of Prophet Mohammed’s companions known as the Barber. Free time in the Medina (1 Hour visit = 5 Km). Check in at the hotel.

Dinner and overnight in Kairouan.

After breakfast, proceed in 4X4 to visit the Mountain oasis of Chebika/Tamerza/Midès (01 hour driving = 70 Km): In Chebika the refreshing water rushes over an imposing waterfall to form a wadi surrounded by palm trees at the bottom of a gorge. Tamerza looks barricaded by its mountain range, as if suspended on the side of a vast canyon with commanding views over the vast plains as far as the Chott and the sand hills. Finally, there is Midès – the western – most and arguably the most impressive of these oases; which overlooks a breathtakingly high canyon. Continuation to Ong Jmel (45 minutes driving = 60 Km) and visit to the Star Wars place. Return to Tozeur (45 minutes driving = 60 Km) and lunch. In the afternoon, visit the Medina of Tozeur and Dar Cherait museum (01H30 visit = 2-3 Km). Return to the hotel.

After Breakfast, departure in 4X4 to visit the Mountain oasis of Chebika/Tamerza/ Midès (01H00 driving= 70 Km). In Chebika, the refreshing water rushes over an imposing waterfall to form a wadi surrounded by palm trees at the bottom of a gorge. Tamerza looks barricaded by its mountain range, as if suspended on the side of a vast canyon with commanding views over the vast plains as far as the Chott and the sand hills. The old village, which is now abandoned, stretches the length of the palm grove, is surrounded by stunning waterfalls. Finally, there is Midès – the western – most and arguably the most impressive of these oases which overlooks a breathtakingly high canyon. Continuation to Nefta (02H00 driving = 120 km) and visit the oasis. In the afternoon, visit the Dar Cheraot museum, the Eden Palm and the Medina of Tozeur (2 Hours = 5 Km). Return to the hotel.

After Breakfast, departure to Douz via the desert lake of Chott El Jerid (02 Hours driving = 120 Km). Visit Douz which is a small town that appears to be, plopped down amidst the dunes that is known as the "gateway to the Sahara". In ancient times, it was an important stop on the transSaharan caravan routes. Continuation in 4X4 to the desert camp MARS in Timbaine (03H00 driving in 4X4 = 120 Km). Drive through Sahara’s desert road, fast track, get around Jebil National Park, by passing dunes to finally arrive at Timbaine (The Land with no man). Possibility of Quad riding in the dunes and Camel riding near the Camp. Check in at Camp Mars Timbaine at about 16:00, just in time to admire to sunrise ( A total of fifty-two comfortable and ecofriendly white canvas tents accommodation including double or single beds, soft Bedouin blankets for chilling nights, “mergoums” ( Berber carpets), candlesticks and etc; everything designed to preserve the local nature.). Accommodation in private tent settled on the dunes, dinner and overnight.

After Breakfast, Return to Douz in 4X4 (02H00 driving = 120 Km) then we will go to Matmata (01H30 driving = 90 Km) that was the setting for the film Star Wars. This village, named after the Berber tribe that inhabits the region is the largest of the troglodyte communities. Visit the Berber Museum in Tamezret and discover the amazaigh history. You Will travel through the amazigh life and stories (01H30 visit). Continuation to Sfax (03H00 driving = 205 Km), visit the old Medina, check in at the hotel.

After breakfast, departure to El Jem (01H00 driving = 65 Km), enthralled by one of the world’s largest and most spectacular Roman Amphitheatre. Built in 238 AD, the Amphitheatre can hold up to 35,000 spectators. This monument illustrates the grandeur and extent of the Roman Empire. Nearby is the museum of El Jem, which houses some lovely mosaics and the remains of some recently excavated luxury villas (02H30 visit). Continuation to Mahdia (45 minutes driving = 45 Km): this is a smalll city, which keeps its original traditions, where the women cover themselves with gold jewelry and the houses are decorated with embroidered hangings. Its monumental gateway calls back to its glorious past: it was the first capital of the great Fatimid dynasty, who would go on to reign in Egypt and Syria. Its medina stretches out along a narrow peninsula, surrounded by deep blue waters; its sumptuous beaches delight the tourists. A charming city with many faces. Visit the Medina and the fishing port (01H30). Check in at the hotel.

After breakfast, departure to Monastir (01H00 driving = 50 Km), visit the Mausoleum Habib Bourguiba and the Ribat (02H00 visit). Continuation to Sousse (20 minutes driving = 30 Km), the 3rdlargest city in Tunisia. The Medina of Sousse is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Tunisia. Explore the ramparts, walls that enclose certain part of the city and the 13th century Ribath, an ancient rest stop for travelers, visit of Port El Kantaoui (02H00 visit = 15 Km). Departure to Hammamet (01H15 driving = 80 Km), check in at the hotel.

After breakfast, checkout and visit of Hammamet (01H30 visit = 5 Km): Big sea-side resort known for its orange trees and fine sand beaches. Visit of the Old Medina: with waves sweeping against the ramparts and the imposing 15th Century fort, the Medina of Hammamet presents the visitor with the charm of its meandering streets where time seems to be at a stand still. Blue doors contrasting with the dazzlingly white walls guard the entrances to pretty boutiques and art galleries. Departure to visit the ancient site of Oudhna (Uthina) (01H00 driving = 50 Km), during your visit you will discover how the legacy of the Phoenician Adyn was taken over by the Carthaginian and Roman Uthina, lies at about 30 km south of the capital, on the road to Zaghouan. Its location between Tunis and Hammamet makes it a great tourist attraction. Continuation to Tunis (01H00 driving = 50 Km), check in at the hotel.
